If you're considering going cross-country by train, then we can wholeheartedly say that we support that idea. Malaysia's railway system, KTMB, is rather efficient, yet cheap. The train interiors are comfortable, as they provide reclinable Pullman seats and aircon, amongst other little creature-comforts, but they're spacious too. Best of all, the network is extensive and going by train is both family and tourist-friendly.

Best of all, you'll be treated with endless panoramas right at your window, because the landscape you'll be traversing is some of the prettiest and most varied you'll come across. And you'll be able to take it all in at your leisure, since you don't have to concern yourself with driving, or with other potential hiccups along the way that are likely to present themselves when you drive yourself for example, or even when traveling by taxi, such as traffic jams, poor road conditions, night driving etc. Frankly, the train is the closest thing to staying in control, but without the worries that come with being in control.
